The Andhra Pradesh government has signed an MOU with the International Baccalaureate (IB), which is set to become a part of SCERT to design the new curriculum. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the camp office on Wednesday.

Starting 2025-26 academic year, the IB curriculum will be incorporated for class 1 across govt schools in AP, and by 2034-35 academic year, it will be incorporated for all students up to class 10. Students will get joint IB and state board certifications starting April 2035. In 2036-37, IB will be extended to class 12, with dual certifications awarded in April 2037. The collaboration will be rolled out in stages, beginning with capacity building and training for teachers from this year, stated the official press release.

“It is with great satisfaction, I join this pivotal endeavor, to integrate International Baccalaureate (IB) program with government education, spanning from class 1 to class 12,” CM Reddy said.

“The imperative is to elevate the standard of education in our country, aligning it with global benchmarks in terms of curriculum and learning development. This involves fostering problem-solving skills, transitioning from theory to practical application, and facing the challenge of uplifting educational standards. This endeavor serves as a testimony to the transformation of the norm where International Baccalaureate (IB) is made accessible to government schools. By integrating IB into the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) board, the government aim to instigate a progressive transformation in curriculum, educational modules, and the establishment of new benchmarks,” he added.

The initiative includes extensive training and awareness programs for teaching staff, school heads, MEOs, DEOs SCERT & District Institute of Educational Training (DIET), staff of SSC and intermediate boards. By earning IB certifications, teachers will become part of the prestigious IB global teacher network, further strengthening the state’s educational system.
